Norfolk County Spotlight: Franklin Fire Department

Throughout the year, the Norfolk County Fire Chiefs Association will feature a different fire department in the county and highlight some of the news and important events they have going on.

Personnel Changes

Chief James McLaughlin is pleased to report that effective Sept. 1, Lt. William Blanchard was promoted to a new position in the department, EMS Lieutenant. On Aug. 26, the department hired Matthew Berger as a new Firefighter/Paramedic. Department recruit Matthew LaFleur is currently enrolled in Massachusetts Firefighter Academy Class 277 and is due to graduate on Oct. 25.

Training

Every member of the Franklin Fire Department will be participating in live burn training at the Milford burn facility the week of Oct. 28.

Upcoming Events

The Franklin Fire Department will be hosting a fire safety event at department headquarters, 40 West Central St., on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 1-5 p.m. The event includes pizza, an extrication drill and a bike raffle. In addition, on Sunday, Oct. 20, the department will host its first Fireman’s Memorial Sunday at department headquarters, which will feature the department’s newly formed honor guard.

New Apparatus and Equipment

The department recently took delivery of a new ambulance that will be stationed at Station 2. In addition, a new Achilles boat for water emergencies which will be stationed at headquarters.
